1st round 2nd Round 3rd Round 4th Round 5th Round 6th Round 7th Round
Updated 4/16/10
208. St. Louis Rams- DT Nate Collins (Virginia)
Collins is undersized, but fits their scheme and needs well as a rotational one gap penetrator. That’s all they really need at this point in their rebuilding process. No need to spend the first pick on Suh.
209. Buffalo Bills (via DET)- G Shawn Lauvao (Arizona State)
The Bills had to sign Richie Incognito during last season because they lacked depth at the guard position. That didn’t work. Lauvao can do the same thing without being as out of shape.
210. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- S Dominique Joseph (Temple)
Raheem Morris is a defensive backs coach at heart so he could take a late round flier on a developmental safety like Joseph. It’s not like they don’t need an upgrade at safety anyway.
211. Washington Redskins- RB Keith Totson (Oklahoma State)
Mike Shanahan loves drafting running backs in the late rounds so with all 3 of their running backs on their last legs, I don’t see why he wouldn’t take a guy like Totson in the 7th.
212. Miami Dolphins (via KC)- RLB Cameron Sheffield (Troy)
Assuming Jason Taylor leaves, the Dolphins will probably want to get more than one upgrade at rush linebacker.
213. Detroit Lions (via SEA)- DE George Johnson (Rutgers)
Kyle Vanden Bosch was a smart signing by the Lions, given his success in Jim Schwartz’ system, but he is on the wrong side of 30 and injury prone so the Lions will want some depth at the left end position.
214. Detroit Lions (via CLE)- DT Mick Williams (Pittsburgh)
Williams is a tenacious pass rusher which Jim Schwartz will love and he won’t be put off by his lack of size given how much success he had with smaller defensive tackles in Tennessee.
215. Oakland Raiders- S Matt Greco (Central Florida)
The Raiders won’t take Taylor Mays in the first because they don’t need a safety that badly, but Al Davis won’t be able to resist Greco’s 4.40 40 at 6-3 224. That makes him a late 1st round prospect in his book and in the 7th round, he’ll view that as a huge steal.
216. Buffalo Bills- RB Chris Brown (Oklahoma)
Something tells me Marshawn Lynch won’t be around too much longer. He’s not on good terms with the new regime in town.
217. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via JAC)- RB Toney Baker (NC State)
Both Earnest Graham and Derrick Ward are getting up there in age and Cadillac Williams is not the most consistent and durable player.
218. Chicago Bears- CB Walter McFadden (Auburn)
After cutting Nathan Vasher, the Bears will be looking for a cornerback in the 2010 NFL Draft. Too bad they have so many needs and so few picks, so they’ll have to settle for a guy in the 7th.
219. Miami Dolphins- OT Andrew Tyshovnytsky (Fordham)
The Dolphins have like every other pick in the 6th and 7th. They are running out of positions. They need depth at the offensive tackle position.
220. Denver Broncos- MLB Joe Pawelek (Baylor)
The Broncos didn’t have enough needs coming into the draft so they traded Brandon Marshall and have to wait until the 7th to take a replacement for Andra Davis (who shouldn’t have been cut, but that’s another story).
221. New York Giants- WR David Reed (Utah)
The Giants like to take wide receiver depth and best available. Reed would fulfill both of those.
222. Tennessee Titans- QB Sean Canfield (Oregon State)
Vince Young isn’t the most historically consistent guy so they’ll want a solid backup for him next year. Kerry Collins could be cut if they draft a quarterback. Chris Simms is garbage.
223. Carolina Panthers- OT Dennis Landholt (Penn State)
If the Panthers have another injury to one of their starting tackles, I doubt they’ll want to start Travelle Wharton at tackle again.
224. San Francisco 49ers- G Cord Howard (Georgia Tech)
A guard prospect to compete with David Baas is needed.
225. Pittsburgh Steelers- CB Trevard Lindley (Kentucky)
More corner depth for the Steelers who like to take best available and to upgrade their defensive depth.
226. St. Louis Rams (via ATL)- OT Kyle Jolly (North Carolina)
Alex Barron was one of the worst left tackles in the league last year, which is not a huge deal because the long term plan is to move Jason Smith to left and Barron at right, but Barron might still suck at right. Plus, there’s always a chance Smith doesn’t pan out. A backup plan at tackle might not be a bad idea.
227. Houston Texans- CB Kevin Thomas (USC)
The Texans face Peyton Manning twice a year and just lost their top cornerback. They should take multiple this year in the draft. Thomas only slips this far because of the strength of the cornerback class.
228. Cincinnati Bengals- QB Ryan Perrilioux (Jacksonville State)
Carson Palmer isn’t known for his clean bill of health. Perrilioux was actually one of the best quarterbacks statistically in college football last year, but given how many times he got in trouble at LSU before he was kicked off the team and his weak level of competition at Jacksonville State last year, he’ll slip this far. The Bengals don’t care about the character flaws so he makes sense here.
229. New England Patriots- P Matt Dodge (East Carolina)
Chris Hanson was statistically the worst punter in the league last year. Time for a replacement.
230. Green Bay Packers- P Robert Malone (Fresno State)
The Packers could use an upgrade at punter as well.
231. New England Patriots (via PHI)- MLB Reggie Carter (UCLA)
The Patriots can’t keep waking Junior Seau up from the dead every time they need linebacker depth.
232. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via BAL)- OLB Kyle Bosworth (UCLA)
The Bucs don’t just need one upgrade at linebacker. They could use another one as well.
233. Arizona Cardinals- C Chris Hall (Texas)
Matt Leinart is not the most mentally tough guy so they can’t have Lyle Sendlein stepping on his foot every other week like he did with Warner.
234. Dallas Cowboys- WR Thomas Harris (Alabama A&M)
Harris gives them an upgrade at punt returner. Patrick Crayton fumbled too many punts. Harris can also play receiver in case they cut Roy Williams next offseason and need depth.
235. San Diego Chargers- WR Stephen Williams (Toledo)
Both Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd are free agents next offseason so they’ll want some receiver depth. Williams is 6-5 so he finds the tall receiver prototype the Chargers look for.
236. New York Jets- CB Rafael Priest (TCU)
In case Cromartie struggles, they’ll need depth and Priest could be a steal here.
237. Minnesota Vikings- G Matt McCracken (Richmond)
More interior line depth for an offensive line that struggled to open up holes for Adrian Peterson last year.
238. Indianapolis Colts- DT Ricardo Matthews (Cincinnati)
Even if Fili Moala pans out, doubtful, the Colts will need another defensive tackle opposite him and Matthews’ lack of elite size won’t scare away the Colts.
239. New Orleans Saints- OLB Simoni Lawrence (Minnesota)
Scott Shanle is a free agent next offseason so they could use a future replacement.
240. Indianapolis Colts (comp)- S Kyle McCarthy (Notre Dame)
Safety depth and special team depth to replace to departed Aaron Francisco.
241. Tennessee Titans (comp)- MLB Kion Wilson (South Florida)
Stephen Tulloch could be upgraded at middle linebacker.
242. Pittsburgh Steelers (comp)- NT Aleric Mullins (North Carolina)
Casey Hampton won’t last forever. If Mullins pans out, they can cut him midway into his deal and save a ton of money.
243. Philadelphia Eagles (comp)- DT Brandon Deaderick (Alabama)
Defensive tackle isn’t a huge need, but Andy Reid likes drafting large men to make him feel better about his own weight issues. At 315, Deaderick fits the bill.
244. Philadelphia Eagles (comp)- P Zoltan Mesko (Michigan)
Sav Rocca didn’t do great as a punter over the last two years. If the 236 pound Mesko doesn’t pan out as a punter, he could play linebacker. I’m only slightly kidding.
245. Seattle Seahawks (comp)- S Justin Woddall (Alabama)
Deon Grant is gone so the Seahawks are extremely thin at the safety position.
246. Indianapolis Colts (comp)- WR Scott Long (Louisville)
More options for Peyton Manning. Long is a one year wonder and a workout wonder and has huge upside.
247. New England Patriots (comp)- QB Mike Kafka (Northwestern)
The Patriots only have two quarterbacks on the roster. Kafka would fit the scheme.
248. New England Patriots (comp)- RLB O’Brien Schofield (Wisconsin)
Schofield was a late 3rd round prospect before he tore his ACL. The Patriots already took one rush linebacker in this draft, but getting Schofield would be a steal here.
249. Carolina Panthers (comp)- G Joe Thomas (Pittsburgh)
More offensive line depth for their thin line.
250. New England Patriots (comp)- S Marcus Brown (Arkansas State)
They have a ton of 7th rounders. I’m running out of positions. How about safety?
251. Oakland Raiders (comp)- MLB Travis Goethel (Arizona State)
Goethel runs a 4.57 40 at 6-2 236 and can play multiple linebacker spots.
252. Miami Dolphins (comp)- MLB Daryl Sharpton (Miami)
Channing Crowder is often injured so getting a steal like Sharpton as depth at the middle linebacker position is a good idea. He’s also local.
253. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (comp)- P Brent Bowden (Virginia Tech)
A punter is needed.
254. St. Louis Rams (comp)- S Harry Coleman (LSU)
Safety depth is needed. Sorry. Running out of things to say.
255. Detroit Lions (comp)- CB Brandon Brinkley (Houston)
They were awful against the pass last year. They’ll need multiple upgrades at cornerback.
