If they can win week 16 against the Bengals, they should still be in the playoffs regardless, even after a loss to the Chargers at home. The Bengals really missed a chance at home for Dallas this week. I think they get that one and while they’re at it, I think they win in Dallas and at home for Cleveland and run the table. 10-6 will mean the 5 seed and a road playoff game in the first round and they have documented road issues over the past couple of seasons. I don’t think they’d win in New England or Denver, so they better hope they get the Ravens in the first round. That would be a tough game too, but at least they already won there.

This is a team that is not nearly as good as their record, but record is all that will matter when the season ends and the playoffs start. They have 9 wins right now and an easy game against the Chiefs to give them 10. In fact, in the AFC, 9 would probably get them a playoff spot. I don’t give them much chance in either of their two games against the Texans though and I don’t think they’ll win a playoff game.

They got their big win this week, but the more important thing is the Redskins did too. The Redskins have a very easy schedule the rest of the way and if they win out, the Giants will have to do so too to win the NFC East, which would require wins in Atlanta and Baltimore. I think they win 1 of 2 and beat the Eagles week 17 to finish 10-6. The Redskins take the NFC East on a divisional record tiebreaker and the Giants are the 7th team in a loaded NFC and don’t get one of the 6 chairs at the end of the day.

Bottom line, it won’t matter what they do in either of their other two games if they can’t win in Pittsburgh week 16. I don’t think they can and while I’m at it, I think they lose at home for the Ravens week 17. This is a team who has had a lot of issues beating playoff caliber opponents over the past 2 seasons. The Eagles next week should be easier, but weird things happen on Thursday Nights.

A home loss to the Eagles effectively eliminates them from the playoffs. They would have had to win in New Orleans and Atlanta to make it anyway, but I thought they could, easily since the Falcons would likely be resting starters week 17. It turns out, that maybe they were overrated. They seem to be nothing if not streaky and have cooled down of late. If they heat up again, a win in New Orleans and Atlanta, as well as at home for the Rams, could happen, but it’s more likely they end up at a nice round 8-8.

I never considered the Saints a true playoff contender because of their schedule, but it gets easier for them now after 3 straight losses. They have very winnable games at home for the Panthers and Buccaneers and they can win in Dallas too as the Cowboys tend to struggle at home, compared to most teams. 7 or 8 wins seems likely, but well short of expectations.

Every year they go on a run to save Norv Turner’s job. This week, they got a huge upset in Pittsburgh after word broke that Turner might be fired. With remaining games against the Panthers, Jets, and Raiders, I don’t see what’s stopping them from running the table, though it’s questionable if that’s in the best interest of the organization long term since they aren’t a true playoff contender.

Since the bye, the Rams have tied and beaten the 49ers, gotten road wins in Buffalo and Arizona, and only lost to the Jets, who were in a great spot. Improved health is to thank. The Cowboys got an emotional win on this road this week, but they could be flat off that game at home, where they generally struggle, for an angry Pittsburgh team this week. They then host New Orleans and once again, the Cowboys don’t do well at home, before a trip to Washington, who is on fire right now. 7 or 8 wins seems reasonable and a serious playoff run unlikely for a team that generally struggles in December.
